Peek Inside the Crypt: About Graveyard Brat
Graves, known in the underground as Graveyard Brat, is a multidisciplinary artist conjuring beauty from the macabre, rooted in Hartford County, Connecticut, where they were born and raised. With a mother who introduced them to horror and alternative culture at a young age, Graves’ fascination with the eerie and the theatrical has always been more inheritance than hobby.
They began experimenting with makeup at 13, quickly gravitating toward SFX and character work that blurred lines between fantasy and decay. That early curiosity deepened into experience, with Graves spending several years working in a funeral home, a formative chapter that still echoes through their art and performance. From there, they spent five years haunting the shadows of a local haunted attraction, known for their unsettling clown characters — a precursor to their eventual metamorphosis into the world of drag.
As of 2025, Graves has been performing in drag for nearly two years, creating immersive, femme-forward acts infused with dark glamour, theatricality, and emotional grit. Their work thrives in spaces where the beautiful and grotesque intersect, where every performance is a séance in sequins.

Outside of drag, Graves is also a musician, crafting ambient, liminal soundscapes fused with experimental beats and spectral electro. Their debut EP, Hell is a Promiseland, dropped on February 6, 2022 — their birthday — cementing their signature sonic mood. They also released an earlier track, Castle.wav, as a spectral precursor to their musical journey.
A visual artist as well, Graves dabbles in freelance art, prop design, light costume creation, and SFX makeup, extending their creativity across multiple mediums. Their work has been showcased in galleries and onstage alike, with notable performances at spaces including The Webster in Hartford, CT, and RPM Fest in Massachusetts.
Graves is also a contributing voice in underground media, currently working with Violent Rose Magazine as the mind behind the “Gloom & Groove” music review segment, while also conducting artist interviews for Black Noise, a publication that previously featured them in a digital mixtape release cloaked in ritualistic flair.
Every incarnation of Graves — whether through drag, sound, visuals, or writing — is a carefully summoned spirit. Their work doesn’t just entertain; it haunts, provokes, and lingers.
